The Penzance Volunteers’ 18th-century silver-plated copper alloy button has the head of John the Baptist on a platter in the center of the field, with the legends PENZANCE above and VOLUNTEERS below. The rear of the button has a flat back and is partially lacking the integrated attaching loop. 23mm DIA. An example of one of these buttons is on exhibit at Penlee House Museum and Art Gallery in Penzance (PEZPH: 2002.96), and it is dated to between 1794 and 1797. This example was found by Andy Britten on a group dig with DCDD near Penzance
